My mom calls the other day and leaves me a message. She says, "I just got back from line dancing, and I wanted to give you a call before you go in for surgery." Line dancing? My mother, who grew up in Williamsburg Brooklyn, raised by an über strict polish grandmother, who spent most of her days dreaming that she was Doris Day, one of a handful of white girls in an all black school, who spent her adult years living in Long Island raising four kids while Billy Joel played incessantly on the radio for most of the eighties and early nineties, just got back from line dancing. I...uh...wha?
